This needs assessment is a collaborative effort of Korean Community Services and California State University, Fullerton. It is aimed at increasing awareness and understanding of the growing Korean community in Orange County.

PROFILES OF THE KOREAN AMERICAN COMMUNITY IN ORANGE COUNTY

Since 2000, the Korean population within the county has grown at an average annual rate of 6.2%, and with close to 83,000 individuals residing in Orange County, Koreans now represent the second largest Asian ethnic group in the County. However, Koreans are often poorly understood, as they are perceived as a "model minority" with a perspective that highlights their accomplishments, while the urgent needs that lie within the growing community are overlooked.

It is our hope and anticipation that this report will not only increase understanding of the Korean community, but also shed light upon, and eventually bring about a collaborative effort to effectively support the needs of the Koreans living in Orange County.
